About Me

Emily Baker (she/they) is an actor/director/intimacy director/writer based in Bronx, NY.  They hold a BFA in Musical Theater, with an emphasis in Directing and Contemporary Acting from The Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

 

Emily is a part of the development team and is cast as Io in the new musical, “Sanctuary" by Connor Wentworth.  “Sanctuary” is an exploration of several Greek myths centering on the story of Icarus.  She plays Io, Icarus’ hardheaded little sister, who makes the difficult journey from girlhood to womanhood after a year running through the labyrinth.

 

They will be making their debut at 54 Below in April 2024 performing a selection of songs from “Sanctuary”.

 

Emily’s recent projects include; originating Young in the first reading of “Screamplay” by Connor Wentworth, writing her first full-length play, and hosting Play of the Day, a play-reading series in New York City.

 

As a playwright, Emily has recently presented the first scene of her new full-length play through the Book Hoes Who Write cohort in New York City with plans to hold the first reading in July 2024.

 

Emily is passionate about theatrical advocacy. They were previously an associate producer for Samuel-Lancaster Productions, a theater company focusing on creating artistic spaces that are equitable, anti-racist, inclusive, and accessible to and for all with Sierra Lancaster. They also founded Emily's Repertoire, a monologue and play recommendation service focusing on finding pieces for a wide range of diverse actors, specializing in pieces for trans and non-binary actors.

 

Crucially, they also won fourth place in a local Survivor game in New York City and she plans to dominate the next game.
